Addendum.The
first Sustainability Committee meeting was held on January 14, 2010.Almost all of the hour was spent talking about
Earth Day, April 22, a Thursday.Discussed were (a) location: by the gazebo with a band with perhaps food
being sold and booths whose topics would be conducive to being displayed here,
plus the “Arts quad” where it was held last year; (b) food to be sold; (c)
vendors–KCC should receive a fee for allowing vendors at the event; who will
decide which vendors to allow?(c)
publicizing the event and highlighting KCC sustainability activities.Posters showing visions for a sustainable
campus. “How Would You Green the Campus?” could be the theme. This suggestion
that students produce posters touting sustainability was well received. These
could be hung around the campus for awhile.Posters/photos showing faculty involved in on campus and off campus
sustainability activities.One
suggestion: tours of the campus to show sustainability actions, e.g., the Farm,
the demo windmill by the trades buildings, the solar panels being installed on
OSC roof.It was decided that at the
next meeting, the focus will be on subcommittees and campus sustainability in
general.
